The most striking entry gate in Lari, preceded by another gate, shows the attention to detail that went into its design through the arrangement of its elements. Between the two openings, an august space is created in which a potential assailant, should he have broken through the first gate, would easily become a target. The rival Florentines are ultimately the reason why this structure is so unique: because the enemy often arrived from Pisa, the people of Lari thus assumed that they would continue to come from the same direction in the future.
