Records referring to this church date back to 1260, when it appeared in a catalogue listing the churches in the diocese of Lucca. A commemorative plaque on the entryway's architrave - which once said "Si cor non orat, invanum lingua laborat" - attests to the building's restoration in 1312. On the inside, another inscription remembers the re-consecration by the bishop of San Miniato, Francesco Maria Poggi, which took place in 1707.
